A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING A CHEROKEE NATIONAL DAY OF HONOR AND RECOGNITION KNOWN AS CHEROKEE NATION LEADERSHIP DAY
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America; and,
 
WHEREAS, without the leadership, dedication, and sacrifice of  Cherokee Leaders in government, education, business, language, history and cultural preservation, community organizing, the faith community and as elders, the Cherokee Nation would not be as strong and thriving as it is today; and,
 
WHEREAS, it is always important to recognize the achievements and service of our Cherokee Nation Leaders both past and present, who have shown great skills, accomplishments, and commitment for the Cherokee people; and,
 
WHEREAS, in order to create a way to recognize these leaders, the second Monday in October should be established as the Cherokee Nation Leadership Day, a day set aside to honor and remember those who have led the Cherokee Nation in the matters of government, education, business, language, history, cultural preservation, community organizing, the faith community and as elders over the years; and therefore,
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Council of the Cherokee Nation hereby establishes the second Monday in October as Cherokee Nation Leadership Day, a day set aside to honor and remember those who have exhibited qualities of strong leadership.
