A RESOLUTION CONFIRMING THE NOMINATION OF ROBIN MCCLAIN SMITH AS A BOARD MEMBER OF CHEROKEE NATION COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION CORPORATION

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation Community Association is organized and operated exclusively for one of more of the following purposes: charitable, educational, scientific, literary, or any other purpose allowed for organization subject to federal income tax exemption under Section 501 (c)(3) of Title 26 of the United States code. The Association is organized to establish a point of connection for Cherokee Nation citizens residing outside the historic boundary of the Cherokee Nation in northeastern Oklahoma with each other and their elected officials, and to foster civic and cultural connections between the Cherokee Nation and its citizens outside the boundaries. It should assist regional chapters of diasporic Cherokees in maintaining language, cultural traditions, civic activities, and fellowship,
WHEREAS, the Principal Chief is authorized to select the members of the Board of Directors subject to majority vote of the Council of the Cherokee Nation; and
WHEREAS, Robin McClain Smith is duly qualified to fill this board position pursuant to the Bylaws of the Cherokee Nation Community Association Corporation;
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that Robin McClain Smith is hereby confirmed as a Board Member of Cherokee Nation Foundation for a staggered 3 year term beginning June 16, 2014, expiring June 30, 2017, as authorized by the Bylaws of Cherokee Nation Community Association Corporation.
