A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING CHEROKEE NATION CITIZEN DONALD VANN
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
 
WHEREAS, the Council often recognizes Cherokee Citizens who have been creative, hard-working, and have achieved many successes; and,
 
WHEREAS, Cherokee Citizen, Donald Vann, has many accomplishments and honors and is known as one of the most notable Native American Artists.    In 2013 Vann was named as a Cherokee National Treasure and was honored as a Cherokee Veteran at a Council meeting and at the meeting Vann provided free art work to all veterans who attended the meeting.   In 2014, Vann donated 300 of his art prints to first 300 Cherokee Citizens who received a home through the Housing Authority of the Cherokee Nation, Cherokee New Home Construction Program.  On Veteran's Day in 2014, Vann received his honorary diploma from Stilwell High       School.  Vann left school before he graduated and enlisted in the army and served in Viet Nam.       Vann earned the Purple Heart, National Defense, Good Conduct, Vietnam Campaign and Republic of Vietnam Campaign medals for his military service; and, therefore,
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, the Council of the Cherokee Nation hereby recognizes Cherokee Citizen, Donald Vann, for his military service, for his wonderful artwork and his honor, service and generosity to Cherokee Citizens.
