A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE SUBMISSION OF A TRIBAL COURTS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM GRANT APPLICATION
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government on behalf of the Cherokee People;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is committed to the health of its families and committed to drug free communities;
 
WHEREAS, drug courts, also known as Healing to Wellness Courts, have established records of high success rates across the country, including Indian Country;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation received a grant for planning and implementation for a Juvenile Healing to Wellness Court and sent ten individuals from various disciplines within the tribe to training conferences for setting up a tribal Juvenile Healing to Wellness Court, and that said individuals have now developed a format and a curriculum for said Healing to Wellness Court.
 
      BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Cherokee Nation Healing to Wellness Court Administrator and/or his designee is hereby authorized to seek planning funding in the form of a grant to establish Family and Adult Healing to Wellness Courts.
