A RESOLUTION REQUESTING FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY FOR DONATIONS OF SURPLUS HOUSING TRAILERS TO THE CHEROKEE NATION HOUSING AUTHORITY
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
 
WHEREAS, the Federal Emergency Management Agency has on hand surplus mobile homes that were acquired to give housing assistance to individuals displaced during recent natural disasters, and;
WHEREAS, these housing units are being stored as surplus, and;
 
WHEREAS, there remains a shortage of safe, sanitary and decent housing for Cherokee Citizens, with some of our most needy living on dirt floors and other undesirable living conditions; and
 
      WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation has housing needs to which these surplus housing units could be of benefit.
 
      NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Cherokee Nation through its Tribal Council that the Cherokee Nation request that the Federal Emergency Management Agency donate any available surplus mobile housing units to the Cherokee Nation Housing Authority and the Cherokee Nation.
