A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE OFFICIAL CHEROKEE NATION WEBSITE TO BE REGISTERED AS A GOVERNMENT DOMAIN UNDER THE NAME OF www.cherokee-nsn.gov <http://www.cherokee-nsn.gov>
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation website is maintained by the Information Systems division of the Nation, and is currently registered under the organization domain name of www.cherokee.org <http://www.cherokee.org>;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation recognizes the need to provide the Nation's citizens and the general public access to this information through the Internet in a way that preserves the integrity of the Nation while providing an official and trusted Internet presence;
 
WHEREAS, as a federally-recognized Indian nation, Cherokee Nation is eligible to register as a Native Sovereign Nation government domain (-NSN.gov) through the U.S Department of the Interior;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation desires to obtain the government domain name of www.cherokee-nsn.gov <http://www.cherokee-nsn.gov>, thus distinguishing the Nation's current website status of an organization site to that of a government site.
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Tribal Council hereby authorizes Cherokee Nation Information Systems to submit a request to the Chief Information Officer, U.S. Department of the Interior, to register the official Cherokee Nation website as a government domain under the name of www.cherokee-nsn.gov <http://www.cherokee-nsn.gov>; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Principal Chief (or his designee) shall be authorized to execute all official documents in this regard.
