WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation recognizes the need for broadband connectivity and internet access in rural areas;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation Information Systems wishes to construct a tower to connect to a broadband Internet connection;
 
WHEREAS, if approved the Cherokee Nation Information Systems will receive a maximum grant amount of $699,074.
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Council of the Cherokee Nation authorizes Cherokee Nation Information Systems to submit a formal application to the United States Department of Agriculture Rural Utilities Service to reassign the Community-Oriented Connectivity Broadband Grant Agreement from Cherokee Nation Businesses to Cherokee Nation Information Systems to address the need for Broadband Connectivity and Internet access in areas identified in the Application for Federal Assistance forms and that the Principal Chief (or his designee) is authorized to negotiate and execute all official documents in its regard.
