WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation has a vested interested in accurate and nuanced depictions of its history by reputable museums and other public institutions;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation has had a longstanding and positive relationship with the Autry National Center in Los Angeles, California;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is featured prominently in the upcoming exhibit of the Autry National Center, "Empire and Liberty: the Civil War and the West";
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Tribal Council offers its support and confidence to the Autry National Center for its fair and nuanced portrayal of the complexities of the social and political realities within the Cherokee Nation before, during, and after the American Civil War in the exhibit "Empire and Liberty: the Civil War and the West," opening April 25, 2015 at the Autry National Center in Los Angeles, California.
