Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
 
WHEREAS, a goal of the Cherokee Nation Human Services is to prevent family violence through promoting the safety and welfare of children, youth and families;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation has demonstrated effectiveness to administer programs and activities in the delivery of family violence prevention services to Indian families through prevention, intervention and emergency shelter services;
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Council hereby authorizes an application for funding for fiscal year 2016 to the U.S DHHS, Family Violence Prevention and Services Program, for victims of family violence, and that Principal Chief, Bill John Baker and/or his designee be authorized to sign documents necessary to submit said contract on behalf of the Cherokee Nation.
