A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING CHEROKEE NATION CITIZEN DAWN R. STOVER
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
WHEREAS, the Council often recognizes Cherokee Citizens who have been creative, hard-working, and have achieved many successes; and,
WHEREAS, Cherokee Citizen, Dawn R. Stover, is the executive director for the Oklahoma Native American Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Coalition. At the bi-annual Indian Nations Conference at the Agua Caliente Reservation in Palm Springs, California in December of 2014, Ms. Stover was awarded the Bonnie Heavy Runner Victim Advocacy Award for her outstanding service to Victims of Crime in Indian Country. Stover was also invited by President Obama to attend the signing of the 2013 Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization which addressed a lot of issues of domestic violence and sexual assault victimization in Indian Country.
WHEREAS, the Council of the Cherokee Nation wishes to recognize her for her work and services and awards and dedication to Native American crime victims.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, the Council of the Cherokee Nation hereby recognizes Cherokee Citizen, Dawn R. Stover, for her service in Indian Country and other awards and services and dedication to Native American Crime victims and for receiving the Bonnie Heavy Runner Victim Advocacy Award for all her good services.
