A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE LOCATION OF THE 2015 ELECTION POLLING PLACES
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people; and,
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America; and,
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation now conducts elections every two years and many activities are conducted, as well as Council approval is needed for certain items; and,
WHEREAS, Article 2, Section 61 of the Cherokee Nation Election Code states that "The Election Commission shall establish the location of each precinct subject to approval by Council Resolution."; and,
WHEREAS, the Election Commission of the Cherokee Nation has entered into agreements within the Tribe's 14 county jurisdiction to establish polling places for all districts and a list of the polling places is attached to this resolution; and,
WHEREAS, pursuant to the Cherokee Nation Election Code referenced hereinabove, the Council has reviewed the list and hereby approves polling places locations; and therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION that the Council hereby approves the polling places established by the Cherokee Nation Election Commission, the list of which is attached to this resolution.
