A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PLACEMENT OF LAND IN TRUST - HASTINGS HOSPITAL
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
 
WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation, under a Self-Governance agreement through Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act, as amended, operates comprehensive health care and associated programs of Indian Health Service;
 
WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation will acquire the property known as Hastings Hospital from Secretary of the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Indian Health Service.  Currently utilized by Cherokee Nation in support of Indian Health Service programs operated by Cherokee Nation, Hastings Hospital is located in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.  
 
WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation desires to transfer fee title to United States of America in Trust for Cherokee Nation under the provisions of Title 25 of Code of Federal Regulations.
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Principal Chief of Cherokee Nation, Bill John Baker, and/or his authorized designee(s) be authorized to request the Secretary of the Interior to place said tract of land in Trust for Cherokee Nation in accordance with Bureau of Indian Affairs policy and procedure for the acquisition of land.
