Title

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF LAND IN TRUST - OAKS MISSION SCHOOL (ROCKY FORD) 5.0 ACRES

Body

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;

 

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;

 

WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation authorizes the acceptance in Trust for Cherokee Nation of a tract of land identified as Oaks Mission School (Rocky Ford) in Cherokee County.  Oaks Mission School has been determined by Eastern Oklahoma Region, Bureau of Indian Affairs, United States Department of the Interior, to be eligible for transfer to United States of America in Trust for Cherokee Nation under 40 U.S.C. §523 (b)(2)(B).  The former day school property is further described as follows:

 

N2 NW4 SE4 NE4 of Section 12, Township 19 North, Range 22 East, IB&M, Cherokee County, Oklahoma.  Containing 5.0 acres, more or less;

 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the United States of America is formally requested to transfer the Oaks Mission School (Rocky Ford)  to United States of America in Trust for Cherokee Nation.

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Principal Chief of Cherokee Nation, Bill John Baker, and/or his authorized designee(s) be authorized to accept from the Secretary of the Interior said tracts of land in Trust for Cherokee Nation in accordance with Bureau of Indian Affairs policy and procedure for the acquisition of land.
