A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF TAHLEQUAH, INC., THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF GREEN COUNTRY, THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS OF SEQUOYAH COUNTY, THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS OF NOWATA, THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS OF DELAWARE COUNTY AND THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS OF CHELSEA TO PARTICIPATE IN THE MENTORING PROGRAM FOR AT-RISK TRIBAL YOUTH AND TO ACCEPT FUNDING ON BEHALF OF THE COMMUNITY FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, OFFICE OF JUSTICE PROGRAMS TO SUPPORT THE MENTORING PROGRAM FOR AT-RISK TRIBAL YOUTH

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation, since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee People; and
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continuing government to government relationship with the United States of America; and
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation Tribal Council is the governing body of the Cherokee Nation; and
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation Tribal Council is empowered, under the Constitution and Bylaws of the Cherokee Nation to promote and protect the health, peace, morals, education and general welfare of the Cherokee Nation, the communities and its citizens; and
WHEREAS, the safety and well-being of the Cherokee Nation, the communities and its citizens is a high priority to the Cherokee Nation Tribal Council; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs (OJP) announced the MENTORING PROGRAM FOR AT-RISK TRIBAL YOUTH to establish a program based on one-on-one or group mentoring with at-risk youth; and
WHEREAS, in 2008, The Boys & Girls Clubs of Tahlequah, Inc., The Boys & Girls Clubs of Green Country, The Boys and Girls Clubs of Sequoyah County, The Boys and Girls Clubs of Nowata, The Boys and Girls Clubs of Delaware County and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Chelsea were selected as mentoring sites in Indian Country to participate in the MENTORING PROGRAM FOR AT-RISK TRIBAL YOUTH; and
