A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE DEPLOYMENT OF THE F-35 LIGHTNING II FIGHTER AIRCRAFT TO THE 138TH FIGHTER WING OF THE OKLAHOMA AIR NATIONAL GUARD LOCATED AT THE TULSA AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE

Body

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;

 

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;

 

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation proudly and wholeheartedly supports the men and women serving our country and our state; and

 

WHEREAS, citizens of the Cherokee Nation have honorably served in all branches of the armed forces of the United States of America, including service as citizen soldiers in the Oklahoma Air National Guard; and

 

WHEREAS, the Oklahoma Air National Guard and its predecessors have served the United States of America and the people of Oklahoma with distinction for over seventy years; and

 

WHEREAS, the Tulsa Air National Guard Base is located in the Cherokee Nation; and

 

WHEREAS, the men women of the 138th Fighter Wing of the Oklahoma Air National Guard, located at the Tulsa Air National Guard Base, have an extensive and sustained record of excellence and distinction in service to the country and the state; and

 

WHEREAS, deployment of the F-35 Lightning II to the 138th Fighter Wing will have a positive, sustained economic impact on the Tulsa region, the State of Oklahoma, and on the Cherokee Nation through the continued employment of over 1,100 personnel at the base;

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, the 138th Fighter Wing of the Oklahoma Air National Guard should be selected as the home the F-35 Lightning II; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that we support the Oklahoma Air National Guard, and the Governor’s F-35 Task Force in seeking the United States Air Force to station its next generation of fighter aircraft at the Tulsa Air National Guard Base.
