A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING CHANGING THE NAME OF SALLISAW CREEK PARK OWNED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION IN SEQUOYAH COUNTY WITHIN THE TRIBE'S FOURTEEN COUNTY JURISDICTION TO NATIONAL CHEROKEE NATION PARK
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people; and,
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America; and,
WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation owns property that is a park in Sequoyah County; and,
WHEREAS, currently the park’s name is Sallisaw Creek Park which should be changed to National Cherokee Nation Park; and,
WHEREAS, the Council of the Cherokee Nation supports changing the name of the park owned by the Cherokee Nation; and therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Sallisaw Creek Park title is hereby changed to National Cherokee Nation Park.
