A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF STANDING ROCK SIOUX TRIBE'S PROTEST OF THE DAKOTA ACCESS PIPELINE

Body

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people; and,

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America; and,

WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation is supportive of other Indian Nations as well; and,

WHEREAS, Standing Rock Sioux Tribe is having an issue related to the Dakota Access Pipeline.  Cherokee Nation Tribal Council issued a statement supporting Standing Rock Sioux’s protest against the Dakota Access Pipeline; and,

WHEREAS, the Council of the Cherokee Nation also wants to support Standing Rock Sioux’s protest against the Dakota Access Pipeline in order for The Standing Rock people to enforce their inherent right to protect their homelands, their historic and sacred sites, their natural resources, their drinking water and their families from this potentially dangerous pipeline; and therefore:

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Council of the Cherokee Nation hereby supports Standing Rock Sioux’s protest Against the Dakota Access Pipeline.
