A RESOLUTION SPONSORING THE CHEROKEE NATION SCOUT AWARD FOR THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people; and,
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government-to-government relationship with the United States of America; and,
WHEREAS, Boy Scouts of America was founded in 1910, now having more than 2.4 million participants and nearly 1 million adult volunteers, many of whom are Cherokee Citizens; and
WHEREAS, Boys Scouts of America participants can earn a Scouter’s Knot Award, obtained by achieving goals as specified for the knots; and,
WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation wishes to sponsor a Scouter’s Knot Award that will be worn on the official uniforms of those who achieve the award; and,
WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation will work with the Boy Scouts of America to sponsor the “Cherokee Nation Scout Award” in which the qualifications will be determined by the Cherokee Nation.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Council of the Cherokee Nation hereby approves and authorizes sponsoring the Cherokee Nation Scout Award, to members of the Boys Scouts of America that meet qualifications to be determined by the Cherokee Nation.
