A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF DEVELOPMENT OF A CHEROKEE NATION CHILD ABDUCTION RESPONSE TEAM
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation, since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government on behalf of the Cherokee People; and
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America; and
 
WHEREAS, protecting our Nation's children is one of the foremost concerns of the Cherokee Nation; and
 
WHEREAS, child abduction is a real and serious threat, for which the Cherokee Nation and its law enforcement officers should be prepared; and
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation has recently passed laws such as, the Sex Offender Registration Act of 2008, designed to protect our Nation's children; and
 
WHEREAS, there exists Child Abduction Response Teams (CART) with training provided by the United States Department of Justice, this training program is designed for professionals from a variety of disciplines within a community that may be involved in the immediate response to a missing or abducted child incident.
 
WHEREAS, CART members may include law enforcement, investigators, patrol officers, rescue professionals and social workers; and
 
WHEREAS, the development of a CART Team would be beneficial to the public safety of our Nation's youth.
 
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Cherokee Nation, that the Cherokee Nation explore the possibilities and opportunities of developing a Child Abduction Response Team (CART) which would benefit our Cherokee Nation's youth.
