A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PLACEMENT OF LAND IN TRUST - THOMPSON 160 ACRES IN SEQUOYAH COUNTY

Body

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;

 

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;

 

WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation acquired property in Sequoyah County, Oklahoma.  The property lies several miles northeast of Marble City and connects at the northeast corner of the 160 acres to land held United States of America in Trust for Cherokee Nation.  The 160 acres is heavily timbered.    The Sequoyah County property is further described as follows:

 

Indian Meridian, Oklahoma, Sequoyah County

 

Township 13 North, Range 24 East,

 

                     Section 9,                      NW4.

 

WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation desires to transfer fee title of the above described property to United States of America in Trust for Cherokee Nation under the provisions of Title 25 of the Code of Federal Regulations. 

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Principal Chief of Cherokee Nation, Bill John Baker, and/or his authorized designee(s) be authorized to request the Secretary of the Interior to place said tracts of land in Trust for Cherokee Nation in accordance with Bureau of Indian Affairs policy and procedure for the acquisition of land.
