A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PLACEMENT OF LAND IN TRUST - LANCASTER 160 ACRES

Body

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;

 

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;

 

WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation acquired property in Adair County, Oklahoma containing 160 acres.  The property is north of Stilwell in the central part of the County.  The Adair County property is further described as follows:

 

Indian Meridian, Oklahoma, Adair County

 

Township 17 North, Range 25 East,

 

Section 28,                     NW4 SW4, N2 NE4 SW4, SW4 NE4 SW4, SE4 NW4,

                                          S2 SW4 NW4, NE4 SW4 NW4, SW4 NW4 NW4,

                                          and SW4 NE4 NW4.

 

WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation desires to transfer fee title to United States of America in Trust for Cherokee Nation under the provisions of Title 25 of the Code of Federal Regulations. 

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Principal Chief of Cherokee Nation, Bill John Baker, and/or his authorized designee(s) be authorized to request the Secretary of the Interior to place said tracts of land in Trust for Cherokee Nation in accordance with Bureau of Indian Affairs policy and procedure for the acquisition of land.
