A RESOLUTION CONFIRMING THE NOMINATION OF WILMA MANKILLER AS AN HONORARY BOARD MEMBER OF THE CHEROKEE NATION EDUCATION CORPORATION

Body

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation has formed a nonprofit corporation for the promotion of education members of the Cherokee Nation, to provide educational assistance to members of the Cherokee Nation and to promote and preserve the language, culture and history of the Nation;

WHEREAS, the Principal Chief is authorized to select the members of the Board of Directors and Honorary members subject to majority vote of the Council of the Cherokee Nation; and

WHEREAS, Wilma Mankiller is duly qualified to fill this honorary position pursuant to the Bylaws of the Cherokee Nation Education Corporation.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that Wilma Mankiller is hereby confirmed as an Honorary Board Member of Cherokee Nation Education Corporation for the term April 2009 through April 2013, as authorized by the Bylaws of Cherokee Nation Education Corporation.
