A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE SUBMISSION OF A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES, ADMINISTRATION FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES, OFFICE OF CHILD CARE FOR TRIBAL MATERNAL, INFANT AND EARLY CHILDHOOD HOME VISITING PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION AND EXPANSION GRANT
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation support the development of healthy, happy, successful children and families;

WHEREAS, home visiting programs are intended to promote positive outcomes such as improvement in maternal, infant and children health and development;

WHEREAS, the Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families and the Health Resources Service Administration are collaborating to continue existing tribal home visiting programs similar to Cherokee Nation Cherokee Parents;

WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation has successfully completed a five-year Home Visiting grant funded program and seeks funding to continue said program;

WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation has the capacity to conduct needs and readiness assessments, plan, development, and implement evidence-based maternal, infant, and early childhood services, and

WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation Human Services wishes to cooperate and collaborate with various programs serving women, children, and families in tribal communities that result in high quality early childhood systems.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that Human Services develop and submit a grant application for Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program activities;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Principal Chief, Bill John Baker, and/or his designee be authorized to sign documents necessary to submit said application on...
