Title

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE SUBMISSION OF A SPECIAL GRANT APPLICATION FOR AN ECONIMIC DEVELOPMENT FEASIBILITY STUDY IN FY19

Body

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;

 

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;

 

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation will conduct a feasibility study on creating a blackberry processing and marketing program utilizing organic blackberry growers who are Cherokee citizens;

 

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation will then use the feasibility study to determine the validity and economic opportunity to both the Cherokee Nation and Cherokee citizen entrepreneurs and if feasible, pursue this economic opportunity;

 

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation will contract with a qualified consultant, through the standard Cherokee Nation procurement process;

 

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation understands that this study is subject to disclosure to third parties under the Freedom of Information Act and the Department of Interior’s FOIA regulations.

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Tribal Council hereby authorizes the Cherokee Nation Commerce Department to apply for NABDI technical assistance funding for the 2019 fiscal year.
