A RESOLUTION CONFIRMING THE NOMINATION OF KIMBERLY TEEHEE AS DELEGATE TO THE UNITED STATES HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES FOR THE CHEROKEE NATION

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government on behalf of the Cherokee people; and
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America; and
WHEREAS, in accordance with Article 12 of the Treaty with the Cherokees, dated November 28, 1785 (Treaty of Hopewell), Article 7 of the Treaty with the Cherokees dated December 29, 1835 (Treaty of New Echota), and pursuant to Article VI, Section 12 of the Constitution of the Cherokee Nation, the Principal Chief is authorized to appoint the Delegate to the United States House of Representatives for the Cherokee Nation subject to confirmation by the Council of the Cherokee Nation;
WHEREAS, the terms of office for the Delegate to the United States House of Representatives for the Cherokee Nation shall coincide with the term of the Office of the Principal Chief;
WHEREAS, the Principal Chief has nominated Kimberly Teehee as the Delegate to the United States House of Representatives for the Cherokee Nation to fulfill the duties thereof under the Constitution;
WHEREAS, Kimberly Teehee is duly qualified to fill this position.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that Kimberly Teehee is hereby confirmed as the Delegate to the United States House of Representatives for the Cherokee Nation, to fulfill the duties of Delegate to the United States House of Representatives for the Cherokee Nation as specified in Article VI, Section 12 of the Constitution of the Cherokee Nation for a term of appointment to coincide with the term of the Office of the Principal Chief.
