A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING APPLICATION TO BUREAU OF INDIAN AFFAIRS - INVASIVE SPECIES (IS) PROGRAM

WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
WHEREAS, the range of feral swine is expanding rapidly north through the Cherokee Nation jurisdiction, causing threat to the value and integrity of natural resources of Cherokee Nation, its citizens, and surrounding communities;
WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation will apply to the Bureau of Indian Affairs Invasive Species Program for the purpose of controlling the feral swine population within Cherokee Nation jurisdiction by means of capture and removal;
WHEREAS, the Bureau of Indian Affairs Invasive Species Program requires resolution by Tribal Council for applications involving capture and removal of this invasive species;
BE IT RESOLVED BY CHEROKEE NATION, that Tribal Council hereby approves of Cherokee Nation’s application to the Bureau of Indian Affairs Invasive Species Program for the capture and removal of feral swine within the Cherokee Nation jurisdictional boundary.
