A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE SUBMITTAL OF APPLICATION TO THE BUREAU OF INDIAN AFFAIRS (BIA) NATIONAL TRIBAL BROADBAND GRANT PROGRAM FOR FY2020

Body

WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;

 

WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government-to-government relationship with the United States of America;

 

WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation has prepared an application to the Bureau of Indian Affairs FY2020 National Tribal Broadband Grant Program;

 

WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation proposes in this application to conduct a feasibility study to explore the broadband connectivity and accessibility at various tribal community centers throughout the reservation area;

 

WHEREAS, this feasibility study could lead to infrastructure expansion that would improve economic, educational, and healthcare opportunities for Cherokee citizens living in rural communities who lack quality, affordable connectivity;

 

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY CHEROKEE NATION, that the Tribal Council hereby approves the application’s submission to the Bureau of Indian Affairs FY2020 National Tribal Broadband Grant Program (Opportunity Number: BIA-IEED-2020).
