A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING APPLICATION TO THE BUREAU OF INDIAN AFFAIRS NATIVE AMERICAN BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE GRANT PROGRAM

Body

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-governance on behalf of the Cherokee people;

 

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;

 

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation Spider Gallery is an art gallery providing Cherokee artists an outlet to market and expand artists’ markets and sales; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Spider Gallery is designed to increase Cherokee artists’ sales and enhance the entrepreneurial climate of the arts; and,

 

WHEREAS, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a dramatic decrease in both artist retail sales and workshop availability;

 

WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation has prepared an application to the Bureau of Indian Affairs Office of Indian Energy and Economic Development for its FY 2021  Native American Business Development Institute (NABDI) Grant Program;

 

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation Spider Gallery, to offset the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and prepare for future disasters, proposes to conduct a feasibility study to determine global competitiveness and develop a business plan to create and market an online gallery capable of reaching both national and international markets with Cherokee arts and traditional art classes in a virtual setting, better positioning the Spider Gallery and its Cherokee artists for any future disasters;

 

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Tribal Council hereby approves the Spider Gallery’s application submission to the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Indian Energy and Economic Development for its FY2021 Native American Business Development Institute (NABDI) Grant Program (Opportunity Number: NABDIFY2021)
