A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE LEASING OF MINERALS AT CHILOCCO, KAY COUNTY, OKLAHOMA

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation has authority under Public Law 99-283 to lease the Trust Acres at Chilocco on behalf of the six tribes having ownership. The property is further described as follows:
Sections 13,14,15,16, 21,22,23,24, 25,26,27,28 and the E2 of Sections 17 and E2 of Section 20 and NE4 of Section 29 and N2 SE4 of Section 29, all in Township 29 North, Range 2 East, I.B.&M., Kay County. Oklahoma;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation desires to grant a permit for a seismic study and lease said property for mineral development for the benefit of all six tribes;
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation, Chadwick Smith, and/or his authorized designee(s) be authorized to request the Secretary of Interior to GRANT A SEISMIC PERMIT and APPROVE A LEASE in accordance with Bureau of Indian Affair policy and procedure for leasing interests of Indian land.
