Title

A RESOLUTION CONFIRMING THE REAPPOINTMENT OF EDWARD H. FITE III AS A COMMISSIONER OF THE CHEROKEE NATION ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION COMMISSION

Body

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;

 

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;

 

WHEREAS, the Environmental Protection Commission (EPC) was created and authorized by Title 27 Section 101 of the Cherokee Nation Code Annotated (CNCA);

 

WHEREAS, the EPC works to promote efforts which will prevent or eliminate damage to natural resources and the environment and to enrich the understanding of the ecological systems and natural resources important to the Cherokee Nation through regulating traditional areas of environmental concern, such as solid waste and underground storage tanks, toxic and hazardous substance control, and water quality.

 

WHEREAS, the Principal Chief is authorized to select members of the Commission subject to majority vote of the Council of the Cherokee Nation; and

 

WHEREAS, Edward H. Fite III is duly qualified and should be reappointed as a Commissioner pursuant to the laws of the Cherokee Nation;

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Council of the Cherokee Nation hereby confirms Fite as a Commissioner of the Cherokee Nation Environmental Protection Commission for a term of four (4) years beginning February 15th, 2022 and expiring February 2026.
