Title

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE SUBMITTAL OF FY22 SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND SUICIDE PREVENTION PROGRAM: SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION, TREATMENT, AND AFTERCARE APPLICATION TO INDIAN HEALTH SERVICES

Body

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people; and

 

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America; and

 

WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation operates Cherokee Nation Behavioral Health Services, which provides substance abuse treatment, aftercare, and prevention; and

 

WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation recognizes the needs of tribal citizens who suffer from addiction. The need of such citizens to receive addiction treatment currently exceeds the capacity of Cherokee Nation Behavioral Health; and

 

WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation intends to submit an application to the Indian Health Services Division of Behavioral Health, FY22 Substance Abuse and Suicide Prevention Program: Substance Abuse Prevention, Treatment, and Aftercare; and

 

WHEREAS, upon award, Cherokee Nation Behavioral Health Services will foster coalition and networks to improve care coordination, expand available behavioral health care treatment services, increase the capacity of community members and service providers, and develop a formal plan to ensure the sustainability of the project activities beyond the grant life-cycle.

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Tribal Council hereby authorizes an application for funding to the Indian Health Service Division of Behavioral Health FY22 Substance Abuse and Suicide Prevention Program: Substance Abuse Prevention, Treatment, and Aftercare; and that the Principal Chief, Chuck Hoskin, Jr., and/or his designee be authorized to sign documents as necessary to submit said application on behalf of Cherokee Nation.
