A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PARTICIPATION IN A NATIONWIDE ELDER NEEDS ASSESSMENT

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation Human Services has a long history of receiving funding from the Administration for Community Living to provide meals and caregiver services for Cherokee elders;
WHEREAS, The Administration for Community Living requires a current Needs Assessment as a condition for receiving fiscal years 2022-2024 funding;
WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation has partnered with the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Services to provide the Needs Assessment instruments, evaluation and reporting for more than 10 years; and
WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation shall provide a count of elders, conduct the survey, assist the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Services with local input in the interpretation of results, develop recommendations for action once final survey results are made available to the Nation, and disseminate the results and recommendations to tribal leaders and health officials.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, the Council of the Cherokee Nation hereby authorizes Human Services to partner with the University of North Dakota, School of Medicine and Health Services to participate in Cycle VII Identifying our Needs: A Survey of Elders, utilize the provided survey instrument and to use all collected needs assessment information in aggregate format for the purpose of disseminating and reporting results to Cherokee Nation Human Services.
