A RESOLUTION OF CONTINUING SUPPORT FOR A RURAL TRANSIT PROGRAM
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government on behalf of the Cherokee people;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
      
WHEREAS, federal legislation established a new rural transit program called "Public Transportation on Indian Reservations (Tribal Transit Program)",
 
WHEREAS, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has solicited grant proposals from federally recognized Indian tribes for planning, start-up, and enhancement costs associated with implementing a rural transit program,
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is aware of the need for rural transit services to assist Cherokee's with access to employment and other vital services.
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that this resolution hereby supports the continuation of a rural transit program; the pursuit of FTA funding for transit projects and facilities as may be feasible; and, the adoption of such transit projects and facilities into the long-range transportation plan and transportation improvement program.
