A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE SUBMISSION OF A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE UNDER THE COORDINATED TRIBAL ASSISTANCE SOLICITATION
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self government in behalf of the Cherokee people; and

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United Sates of American; and

WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice has initiated a consolidated grant application process for tribes that provides for application for up to ten discrete programs in one package designated as the Coordinated Tribal Assistance Solicitation 2010; and,

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation has identified program service gaps and needs that might be addressed by programs under this process; and,

WHEREAS, such needs are addressed by CFDA numbered programs 16.710; 16.616, 16.608, 16.587 (TSASP), 16.587 (TGP), 16.582, 16.731, and 16.731 in order to better equip the tribe’s law enforcement to respond to current needs, to prevent alcohol and drug related crime, provide services women and girls who are victims of violent crime within the Cherokee Nation and to victims of sexual assault, to better protect tribal elders from victimization including financial fraud and abuse, to create and maintain a safe environment for juveniles adjudicated by the tribe, improve services to juveniles and their families ; and,

WHEREAS, such programs total an amount of $3,730,077; or such other amount as may be negotiated resultant to application and review; and,

WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of tribal citizens to provide such services and protection

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Tribal Council supports and encourages the application for the stated programs and will act to incorporate negotiated amounts into the tribal budget for expenditure by the tribal administration in carrying out th...
