WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
 
WHEREAS, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act provides an opportunity to develop demonstration projects that will address the needs of the healthcare profession to provide eligible individuals with the opportunity to obtain education and training for occupations in the healthcare field;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation Health Services has identified a need for healthcare professionals;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation Career Services has the experience and expertise to conduct such employment and training programs;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation Health Services and Career Services wish to partner to provide eligible individuals with the opportunity to enter healthcare professions.
 
      BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Council hereby authorizes Career Services to develop and submit a grant application to the Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, for a Health Profession Opportunity Grant to Serve TANF Recipients and Other Low-Income Individuals; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Principal Chief, Chad Smith, and/or his designee be authorized to sign documents necessary to submit said application on behalf of the Cherokee Nation.
