E.O. was born in Eunice, New Mexico to Olin and Hazel Smith November 22, 1950. His family was originally from the Vian area, so in 1952, E.O. moved back to Vian with his family and has been here ever since. He attended Vian High School and excelled in football and baseball. He was very active in FFA, and graduated from Vian in 1969. Upon completion of high school, E.O. worked construction, worked at Sequoyah Fuels in Gore, OK, and then owned the Gittin' Place stores (3) for 29 years. As you can see, he has experience in a variety of fields, and he has almost 30 year of business and managerial expertise.

E.O. then worked for Cherokee Nation from 2008-2016 as the Food Distribution Warehouse supervisor in Sallisaw, OK. He decided to retire from the warehouse and become a substitute teacher for Vian public schools whenever needed for three years. It was during this time and several years prior that his desire for the Tribal Councilman position was apparent. E.O. was sworn in as the District 5 Tribal Councilor on August 14, 2017, after a long and arduous path to his dream.

E.O.'s passion has been youth sports for the past 42 years and has coached the sports teams then and currently and it still remains the biggest hobby. E.O. is the recipient of Vian's Favorite Sons and Daughters award in 2009 and won the Wolverine Booster Award in 2010. E.O. is currently Vian's City Council for a total of 12 years and has served on Lake Tenkiller Association (LTA) Board for six years among other various boards within the community. He was President of the Big Basin Association for 14 years (different terms).

E.O. has five children: Dr. Steve Smith, Tara Rodriguez, Josh Smith, Emma Gann and Avery Smith. Education is extremely important to him, and he is very proud that his five oldest grandchildren are all attending college. He resides in Vian, OK and currently is still involved with the local sports, his grandchildren, and reading about history.
