Siyo, nigad

My name is Codey Poindexter and I am the current sitting Tribal Councilor for District 8. My family is originally from Adair and Cherokee County. I graduated from Westville High School, Northeastern State University, and the University of Oklahoma. I eventually obtained my Masters in Indian Law, which has equipped me with legal knowledge of Indian Country and rural communities. I am also an artist; I primarily focus on drawings, paintings, and Southeastern Basketry. I am a descendant of Chief Doublehead, Arichibald Campbell, and Nancy Ward; I am a member of the Paint Clan. I pride myself in being a Cherokee Language Learner and a student of Cherokee History. I reside as the Chair of the Culture Committee.

I currently live in Westville, Oklahoma. My District currently spans the boundaries of Adair, Delaware, and Cherokee counties. I am proud to represent the original Goingsnake District and constantly implement the traditional Cherokee value of ‘duyuktv’, which means to always have the mindset of ‘doing the right thing’ for the community and people. I am blessed to represent wonderful people in many small communities; this District has given me the opportunity to bring awareness and attention to many rural areas within our Reservation. This is my full-time job and I constantly do the best that I can to make sure that my constituents don’t feel like they are being forgotten.

Wado!
