A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PLACEMENT OF LAND IN TRUST - REDBIRD CLINIC
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
 
WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation, under a Self-Governance agreement through Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act, as amended, operates comprehensive health care and associated programs of Indian Health Service;
 
WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation has acquired the property known as Redbird Clinic from Secretary of the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Indian Health Service.  Currently utilized by Cherokee Nation in support of Indian Health Service programs operated by Cherokee Nation, Redbird Clinic is located in Sallisaw, Sequoyah County, Oklahoma.  The property is further described as:
 
A part of the NE4 SE4 of Section 1, Township 11 North, Range 23 East, of the I.B.&M., Sequoyah County, State of Oklahoma, being more particularly described as follows:
Commencing at the NE corner of the said NE4 SE4; thence due South along Section Line a distance of 375 feet; thence North 89° 57' 01" West a distance of 660 feet; thence due North a distance of 375 feet; thence South 89° 57' 01" East a distance of 660 feet to the point of beginning, containing 5.68 acres,  more or less.
 
WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation desires to transfer fee title to United States of America in Trust for Cherokee Nation under the provisions of Title 25 of Code of Federal Regulations.
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Principal Chief of Cherokee Nation, Bill John Baker, and/or his authorized designee(s) be authorized to request the Secretary of the Interior to place said tracts of land in Trust for Cherokee Nation in accordance with Bureau of Indian Affairs policy and procedure for the acquisition of land.
