A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE APPROVAL TO SUBMIT A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE US DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY REGARDING ENERGY EFFICIENCY PROJECTS ON INDIAN LANDS

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
WHEREAS, United States Dept. of Energy has issued a Funding Opportunity Announcement regarding "Deployment of Clean Energy Efficiency Projects on Indian Lands" that is aimed at supporting Native American Tribes with "Deep Energy Retrofit" projects to foster greater energy efficiency;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is desirous developing a more energy efficient Tribal headquarters and improving the indoor air quality of this facility (and that this type of project is eligible for consideration under this funding opportunity);
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation has the necessary resources and technical sophistication to conduct and manage these types of capital projects when teaming with the Federal government,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, the Tribal Council hereby authorizes the Nation to prepare and submit a formal grant proposal to the US Dept. of Energy requesting funds to assist in a "Deep Energy Retrofit" project for the Cherokee Nation Tribal Headquarters.
