Title

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING A GAMING COMPACT SUPPLEMENT WITH THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA

Body

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;

 

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;

 

WHEREAS, gaming conducted by instrumentalities of the Nation as authorized by federal and Cherokee law has been an important economic development for the Nation;

 

WHEREAS, dividends to the Nation from these gaming activities have provided severely needed health, housing education, human services, and infrastructure for the Nation;

 

WHEREAS, the Nation will benefit by accepting the State of Oklahoma’s offer of a Gaming Compact Supplement, which provides an additional covered game proposed by House Bill 3375, approved by the Governor of the State of Oklahoma on April 10, 2018;

 

WHEREAS, Intergovernmental compacts are required to be ratified by the Council of the Cherokee Nation in accordance with Legislative Act 15-01.

 

WHEREAS, the State-Tribal Gaming Act requires that to become effective, the Gaming Compact Supplement must be executed by a duly authorized tribal official and approved by the Secretary of the United States Department of the Interior;

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Principal Chief is hereby authorized to execute the Tribal Gaming Compact Supplement, accepting the offer of an additional covered game, recognized as non-house-banked table games.
