A RESOLUTION HONORING STEVEN PAUL JOBS FOR HIS CONTRIBUTION TO THE CHEROKEE PEOPLE IN BRINGING THE CHEROKEE LANGUAGE TO MODERN TOOLS

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self government on behalf of the Cherokee people; and
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America; and
 
WHEREAS, iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad are the only mobile devices which support Cherokee as a language and font; and
 
WHEREAS, Sequoyah High School, a Bureau of Indian Education school operated by the Cherokee Nation in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, is a one-to-one Apple laptop school; and
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation Immersion School and Cherokee Nation language programs all use Apple products; and
 
WHEREAS, iOS provides for Cherokee which enabled widespread adoption of Apple products by community members including text messaging, emails, blogs, social media such as Facebook and Wikipedia; and
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is grateful to individuals who support and further the Cherokee language as a contemporary and living language.
 
      NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THE CHEROKEE NATION TRIBAL COUNCIL recognizes the late Steven Paul Jobs of Apple as a person of honor for his actions and deeds in bringing attention and innovative technology tools to the citizens of the Cherokee Nation and to the world.
