a resolution ADOPTING the KANSAS INTERSECTION SAFETY IMPROVEMENT PROJECT AS A PRIORITY FOR TRIBAL TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM SAFETY FUNDING

 

Body

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government on behalf of the Cherokee people;

 

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;

                     

WHEREAS, Title 23 United States Code §202(e) provides for a 2% set-aside of Tribal Transportation Program funding for purposes of funding highway safety projects throughout Indian country;

 

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation has conducted extensive research concerning the highway safety needs within its reservation and in doing so has identifed the Kansas Intersection Safety Improvement Project, located at the junction of US-412Alt/US-59/SH-10 in Delaware County, as a candidate for safety improvements;

 

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation made application to the Federal Highway Administration and was awarded Tribal Transportation Program Safety Funding for the Kansas Intersection Safety Improvement Project.

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Kansas Intersection Safety Improvement Project is hereby authorized to be included in the Tribal Transportation Improvement Program as a Tribal Transportation Program Safety Funding project.
