A RESOLUTION CONFIRMING THE RENOMINATION OF JOHN SHURR TO THE CHEROKEE PHOENIX EDITORIAL BOARD
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
 
WHEREAS, the Free and Independent Press for the Cherokee Nation, Editorial Board was created and authorized by Legislative Act 11-00 and expanded by Legislative Act 16-09;
 
WHEREAS, John Carter Shurr was appointed by the initial two (2) members of the Board to serve the initial two-year term as an Editorial Board Member of the Cherokee Phoenix effective June 2001 through June 2003, and reappointed by the same to serve a term from June 2003 until June 2009 as authorized by Legislative Act 11-00;
 
WHEREAS, the three (3) current board members voted unanimously to appoint John Carter Shurr to serve a six-year term as an Editorial Board Member of the Cherokee Phoenix; and,
 
WHEREAS, John Carter Shurr is duly qualified to fill this vacancy pursuant to the laws of the Cherokee Nation.
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that John Carter Shurr is hereby confirmed as a Board Member of the Cherokee Phoenix for a six-year term effective June 2009 until June 2015 as authorized by Legislative Act 16-09, the Act of June 22, 2009.
