Title

A RESOLUTION CONFIRMING THE NOMINATION OF AMY PAGE AS A JUSTICE OF THE CHEROKEE NATION SUPREME COURT

Body

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government on behalf of the Cherokee people; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation has exclusive tribal jurisdiction over the Cherokee Nation Reservation, the geographic scope of which is defined in federal and Cherokee Nation law; and,

 

WHEREAS, Justices of the Supreme Court are authorized in Article VIII, Section 1 of the Constitution of the Cherokee Nation; and,

 

WHEREAS, Pursuant to Article VIII, Section 2 of the Constitution, the Justices shall be appointed by the Principal Chief and confirmed by the Council of the Cherokee Nation; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation has nominated Amy Page as a Justice of the Supreme Court of the Cherokee Nation, Seat 3, to fulfill the duties of Justice as articulated in Article VIII of the Constitution; and,

 

WHEREAS, Judge Amy Page is duly qualified.

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that Amy Page is hereby confirmed as a Justice of the Supreme Court of the Cherokee Nation to fulfill the duties of Justice as specified in Article VIII of the Constitution of the Cherokee Nation for a term beginning March 2025 to March  2035.
