RESOLUTION NO. 21-88
Supporting the Guidelines: Rules and Regulations
of the
Cherokee Registration Committee
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma is a federally recognized Indian Tribe, organized in accordance with a constitution approved by the Commissioner of Indian Affairs on September 5, 1975 and ratified June 26, 1976; and
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma has the sovereign right to determine its own membership; and
WHEREAS, the Constitution of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma empowers the Cherokee Registration Committee to consider the qualifications and to determine the eligibility requirements for those applying to have their names entered in the Cherokee Register; and
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Registration Committee has developed revisions to the 1978 "Guidelines: Rules and Regulations of the Cherokee Registration .Committee. "These revisions have also had the imput of the Principal Chief, the Tribal Council through the Tribal Council Registration Committee, and the Tribunal of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma - clearly desiring these revisions to be in line with the philosophy and vision of the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma; to be in line with the Constitution of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma; and to be in the best interest of all Cherokee Tribal Members; and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, it supports and ratifies the "Guidelines: Rules and Regulations of the Cherokee Registration Committee," established in the minutes of the meeting held and convened on the 27th day of January 1988 and formally approved by the Cherokee Registration Committee on the 11th day of February 1988.

present, constituting a quorum, by the vote of  14       yea;       0       nay;       0
abstaining.

CHEROKEE NATION
1.      Eligibility requirements for registration for tribal
membership shall be that each applicant must have a valid Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood (CDIB), which represents that the applicant has proven through legal documentation to at least one direct lineal ancestor who is listed with a blood degree from the Final Rolls of Citizens and Freedmen of the Five Civilized Tribes, Cherokee Nation.
2.      The Tribal Membership card shall not be valid without
proper signatures of the Tribal Registrar and the Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma.
3.      The Tribal Membership Card shall not be valid without
the indention of the Seal of the Cherokee Nation.
ED4.      All approved Tribal Members shall be issued a blue
membership card bearing a six digit number preceded by the capital letter, "C".
5. The Tribal Membership Card shall contain the following information: (a) the name which was approved and entered into the Cherokee Registry, (b) the Cherokee Registry Number/ (c) the Date of Birth/ (d) the Address, (e) the Signature of the Tribal Registrar, (f) the Signature of the Principal Chief/ (g) the Approval Date and (h) the phrase, "This card shows the above named person to be a certified member of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma" and (i) the Legal Signature or Mark of the Tribal Member.
The front of the card shall also have the official name of the tribe: The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma. The reverse side of the card shall contain the following statement: The responsibility of the tribal member is to notify the Cherokee Registration Committee of any Membership change such as a name or address, as soon as possible.
