RESOLUTION NO. 69 -06
COUNCIL OF THE CHEROKEE NATION
A RESOLUTION CONFIRMING THE APPOINTMENT OF ANDRE' DIANE
HAMMONS AS ATTORNEY GENERAL OF THE CHEROKEE NATION
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
WHEREAS, the office of Attorney General is authorized in Article VII Section 13 of the Constitution of the Cherokee Nation (1999);
WHEREAS, according to the Constitution, the Attorney General shall be appointed by the Principal Chief and confirmed by the Council of the Cherokee Nation;
WHEREAS, the term of office for the Attorney General shall be for five (5) years;
WHEREAS, the Principal Chief has appointed Andre' Diane Hammons to the office of Attorney General, to fulfill the duties of Attorney General as articulated in the Constitution;
WHEREAS, Andre' Diane Hammons is duly qualified to fill this position.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that Andre' Diane Hammons is hereby confirmed as Attorney General of the Cherokee Nation, to fulfill the duties of Attorney General as specified in Article VII Section 13 of the Constitution of the Cherokee Nation for a term beginning July 2006 and ending June 2011.
CERTIFICATION
The foregoing resolution was adopted by the Council of the Cherokee Nation at a duly called meeting on the 10th day of  Jul y  , 2006, having 17 members present, constituting a quorum, by the vote of 15 yea; 2 nay; 0 abstaining.
