A RESOLUTION CONFIRMING THE APPOINTMENT OF REX EARL STARR AS A SUPREME COURT JUSTICE OF THE CHEROKEE NATION

WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
WHEREAS, Justices of the Supreme Court are authorized in Article VIII Section 1 of the Constitution of the Cherokee Nation;
WHEREAS, according to Article VIII Section 2 of the Constitution, the Justices shall be appointed by the Principal Chief and confirmed by the Council of the Cherokee Nation;
WHEREAS, the terms of office for the Justice of Seat one (1) of the Supreme Court expires December 31, 2020;
WHEREAS, the Principal Chief has appointed Rex Earl Starr as a Justice of the Supreme Court of the Cherokee Nation, Seat 1, to fulfill the duties of Justice as articulated in Article VIII of the Constitution;
WHEREAS, Rex Earl Starr is duly qualified to fill this position.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that Rex Earl Starr is hereby confirmed as a Justice of the Supreme Court of the Cherokee Nation, Seat 1, to fulfill the duties of Justice as specified in Article VIII of the Constitution of the Cherokee Nation for a term beginning January 1, 2021 and ending December 31, 2031.
