A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING AND ENDORSING THE CHEROKEE NATION HEALTH CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT ACT
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
WHEREAS, Cherokee Nation Health Services completed a 15-year long range plan in the year 2001, which was presented to the Principal Chief and the Council of the Cherokee Nation;
WHEREAS, this long range plan addressed the expansion of health services at Sallisaw, Salina, Jay and Nowata; to construct replacement facilities at Nowata, Muskogee, and Jay; and to establish two nurse practitioner clinics in Vinita and Bartlesville to reduce the distance to quality health care facilities;
WHEREAS, Chief Baker has identified specific facilities in need of immediate modernization, expansion, and repair and communities in dire need of the construction of clinics to meet the health care needs of citizens. Specifically, the Preliminary Capital Needs for Cherokee Nation Health Services are set forth below:

WHEREAS, while substantial portions of the plan have been completed, critical facility needs still exist and the ongoing operation of Cherokee Nation W.W. Hastings Hospital by the Nation requires continuous planning and support to sustain its mission.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION that the Council of the Cherokee Nation strongly supports and endorses Chief Baker's Health Plan to address and fund the health capital improvements needed to raise the quantity and quality of health care for Cherokee citizens.
