A RESOLUTION IN RECOGNITION OF MARY KAY HENDERSON
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
 
WHEREAS, Mary Kay Henderson is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation and has served the Tribe in a number of ways beginning as Miss Cherokee, having been the only person to have ever been selected Miss Cherokee twice and moving forward to use her musical talents as the Director of the Cherokee National Youth Choir, and was awarded the 2010 Cherokee Community Leadership Award; and,
 
WHEREAS, under Henderson's leadership the Cherokee National Youth Choir continues to be a significant part of all tribal activities and events ranging from community meetings within the fourteen counties, all Cherokee National Holidays, special events, grand openings, ground breakings, and many others; and,
 
WHEREAS, under Henderson's leadership the Cherokee National Youth Choir has received much recognition, many awards and performed at the 2007 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and again in 2013, at Ground Zero in New York City and other places and events across the United States; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Council of the Cherokee Nation hereby expresses their appreciation for all of Mary Kay Henderson's great work and recognizes her for all her accomplishments, her leadership with the Cherokee National Youth Choir, and her commitment and loyalty to the Cherokee Nation; and therefore,
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Council of the Cherokee Nation hereby expresses their appreciation for all of Mary Kay Henderson's great work and recognizes her for all her accomplishments her leadership with the Cherokee National Youth Choir, and her commitment and loyalty to the Cherokee Nation.
