A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE APPROVAL AND SUBMISSION OF THE "CHEROKEE NATION FOREST MANAGEMENT PLAN" TO THE BUREAU OF INDIAN AFFAIRS
Body
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation since time immemorial has exercised the sovereign rights of self-government in behalf of the Cherokee people;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation is a federally recognized Indian Nation with a historic and continual government to government relationship with the United States of America;
 
WHEREAS, United States Federal law and regulation require that Federally recognized Indian Tribes to conduct all forestry related activities under a specific, DOI-formatted "forest management plan";
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation desires to operate under the principles of self-governance, self-determination, and sound natural resource stewardship/management;
 
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Nation has gauged community desires regarding Tribal forest land management and determined the proposed Cherokee Nation forest Management Plan to be adequate in addressing all of these aforementioned criteria.
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CHEROKEE NATION, that the Tribal Council hereby authorizes the Nation formally support, adopt, and adhere to the rules, regulations, authorities, and policies of the attached "Cherokee Nation Forest Management Plan".
